The East Herts Local Plan is used by the Council's Development Control Service to determine planning applications and shape development across East Herts.

About the Local Plan

The Local Plan forms part of the statutory Development Plan for East Herts district. It is the document used by East Herts Council to determine planning applications across the district as part of the planning and Development Control process.

The East Herts Local Plan 2007 is made up of two parts: a list of Saved Policies and a Proposals Map showing where the policies can be applied.

Accompanying Local Plan Documents 

Accompanying the Local Plan is a suite of Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD) that give further detail and explanation on specific planning policies.

A number of Development and Planning Briefs have also been prepared that set out the Council's development aspirations for specific sites.

Technical Studies also help inform the interpretation of planning policies.

How to Purchase and View a Paper Copy

Paper copies of the Local Plan and Proposals Maps are available to view during normal office hours at the Council's Offices in Hertford and Bishop's Stortford. Paper copies of Local Plan documents including the Proposals Maps are also available to purchase.

Local Development Framework

The Council is currently working on the replacement to its Local Plan called the Local Development Framework or LDF. Find out more about the East Herts Local Development Framework that will shape the future of the district to 2031.
